The Project: New Website for TTA

Tarrant Transit Alliance (TTA) in Fort Worth, Texas – a nonprofit transit advocacy organization – was formed in 2017. At the time, a starter website was created and then added to.

By 2020, the site had become unruly and difficult to navigate for the nonprofit’s different user groups. TTA leaders prioritized building a new website and chose Thrive to handle the website design and development.

With limited staff resources, they required that the site be built in Wix, since their staff was already familiar and comfortable working in Wix to add new blog articles, events and other content.

The Challenge

Within a few years of the original website being built, the TTA website had become unruly, repetitive, difficult to find key information (contact, donate and newsletter signup were buried), inconsistently branded and confusing for unique user groups to navigate it. With some pages repeating information (such as sponsors and board members), it was also difficult to maintain and ensure that every page had the latest, accurate information.

The organization was also gearing up for a major “Vote for Better Transit” campaign that would be driving significantly more visitors to the website. It needed to shine!

Another challenge, in general, for this specific client is explaining what they “do.” They don’t provide transit services. Instead, they advocate for better multi-modal transportation policy, funding and services in the region, working with a myriad of community partners.

The Solution

  • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the current site
  • Understand the unique and complex user groups, their objectives and needs when visiting the website and how to improve their experience and better engage them with TTA
  • Improve site navigation, functionality and visual appeal
  • With all meetings and events online at the time (due to the pandemic), instead of a photo shoot, rely on graphics and the photography assets the local transit authority partner shared with TTA
  • Ensure the site’s branding and messaging is consistent with TTA’s robust social media communications and graphics
  • Make the website ADA accessible and mobile-friendly
  • Build the website so that TTA staff does not have to update the same information in multiple places, like the original site required

The Results

The new website was a significant improvement over the existing site in terms of branding, visual appeal, and simplifying the site’s navigation and functionality. The TTA staff, board and members were thrilled with the new site, and it was much easier for the staff to update and add new blog articles, events, programs, sponsors and supporters to it. Note: the website has been changed/updated since we launched it, and the organization ceased operations in 2023.
